A congresswoman from Pangasinan will complete the 11-member House prosecution team for the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona, one of the panel’s spokesperson said Tuesday.
Marikina Rep. Romero Quimbo identified Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Aggabas of Pangasinan’s sixth district as the 11th and final public prosecutor for the Corona trial.
“Siya ay isang abogada… Dala niya sa grupo hindi lamang ang karanasan niya sa pagpa-practice kundi ang karanasan niya bilang manager, na sa tingin namin ay isang mahalagang elemento para makatulong siya sa pag-aayos ng impeachment process,” Quimbo said at a press briefing.
He added that Aggabas still has to be officially elected as House prosecutor at the plenary when sessions resume on Jan. 16.
Aggabas, a lawmaker, currently chairs the House committee on revision of laws. She finished law from the San Beda College of Law, and was the vice-governor of Pangasinan before her congressional stint.
The congresswoman’s inclusion in the team came after a shakeup in the panel.
Deputy Speaker Lorenzo Tañada III, who was previously named prosecutor, opted to become one of the spokesperson. He was replaced by Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) party-list Rep. Sherwin Tugna.
The other members of the House prosecution team are:
Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr.
Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas
Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr.
Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares
Akbayan party-list Rep. Arlene Bag-ao
Northern Samar Rep. Raul Daza
Cavite Rep. Joseph Emilio Abaya
Orientel Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, and
Isabela Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao
The prosecution team is still finalizing which member will be designated to specific articles of impeachment.
Corona’s defense panel, meanwhile, will be composed of former Supreme Court justice Serafin Cuevas, lawyers Jacinto Jimenez, Jose Roy III and German Lichauco II. — Andreo C. Calonzo/KBK, GMA News
